A cold front is approaching from the north and west today, and will be crossing through the Carolinas tonight and early tomorrow. That will result in some scattered thunderstorms this evening, and there is a chance of some of the storms becoming locally severe. The Storm Prediction Center includes DIllon, Marion and Marlboro counties in their "slight risk" area.

As of this writing, there is a Severe Thunderstorm Watch until 10 pm for areas just to our west, and we will have to stay alert to the possibility of this being extended eastward into our area this evening.

Low temperatures tonight after any storms will be 68 to 72. Very nice weather will move in behind the front and stick around through Friday. Days will be mostly sunny with lower humidity. Highs 83 to 88. Nights fair and comfortable. Lows 63 to 68.

In the tropics, Ernesto has temporarily weakened to a tropical storm, but satellite images indicate it is well on its way back to being a hurricane.

Larger waves from the storm reached the Carolinas this weekend. Unfortunately, that resulted in rip currents along the beaches. Two men drowned in separate incidents Saturday in Hilton Head. Ernesto will be moving farther north and northeast tonight and tomorrow, and the surf for the Carolina beaches will calm down.
