The weather topic on most people’s mind the next few days will be the heat! For Dillon, Marion and Marlboro counties highs today will be in the lower 90s, and even a little hotter tomorrow and Saturday. A cold front will be approaching Saturday, and ahead of that front we could see upper 90s…and places just to our west and southwest toward Columbia could even see 100. It should be a shade cooler Sunday. Rain the next several days will be hard to come by. Only thing I see is the slight chance of a brief thundershower popping up in all this heat, but the best chance of that will be closer to the beaches.
In the tropics, still watching that disturbance that’s been crossing Florida and now shifting to the waters off the southeast US coast. It’s been bringing Florida a lot of rain. Much needed rain, but as often happens with tropical rains, way too much at one time is causing flooding, especially in south Florida. That system has a chance to develop and get better organized the next couple of days, but it will be moving out to sea and not impacting us. The NWS is concerned it could get the surf a bit rough on the Carolina beaches. Also, in the SW Gulf of Mexico there’s a second area that could potentially develop into a depression or tropical storm the next few days. That system seems mostly bound for Mexico, with some rain getting into Texas and Louisiana.
There’s a lot of weather related people I follow on X (twitter). One is Jim Cantore. He started working at the Weather Channel when I was working there way back in 1986. He reposted this amazing lightning video Manitoba Canada today. Check it out..makes me see God’s amazing power!
