It has been a super hot day across the Pee Dee with the combination of temperatures near 100 and high humidity giving us a heat index of 110 degrees. There is a chance of a thunderstorm this evening, with the best chance of seeing one along and west of I-95. Numerous storms in this area this evening have caused some flooding on roads. The good news is the next few days will be a tad less hot, and the chance of scattered storms will be increasing area wide. With it so dry that the grass is crunchy when you walk across it, there is no doubt any rain will be good news. Farmers have really been paying a price for the lack of rain so far this summer.
Tropical Storm Beryl is trying to regroup a bit this afternoon. Its trip across the Yukatan peninsula along with dry air enterning the circulation, beat up the core of the storm late yesterday into this morning. Later today storms starting firing up nearer the center, indicating it is trying to rebuild. RIght now maximum sustained winds are 60 mph. It is forecast to strengthen back into a hurricane tomorrow or tomorrow night, then make landfall on the central Texas coast Monday morning. Intensity then most likley will be a category 1 hurricane, but Beryl had a history of "over performing" prior to hitting the Yukatan, so don't write off it being a bit stronger. Here are the latest satellite loops and latest forecast track from the NHC.
