The new workweek got off to a very hot start. Heat advisories were needed today, and probably will be tomorrow as well. A cooling thunderstorm will affect some places this evening and again tomorrow afternoon and evening, but the true change to a cooler pattern will be Thursday into the weekend. It will be warm and muggy tonight. Lows in middle 70s. Partly sunny and hot tomorrow. Highs middle and upper 90s, and again a heat advisory is likely for a heat index of 105+. Highs Wednesday and Thursday will be a tad lower with in increasing chance of scattered storms, but still reach the lower 90s. By Friday and the weekend, showers and storms will be holding highs only to the 80s! Finally we will enjoy some welcome relief.
Rainfall totals by Saturday are forecast to be impressive, especially by this summer's standards. Here is the GFS model prediction for total rain by 8 am Saturday. You can see amounts across Dillon, Marion and Marlboro counties range from 1.5 inches to 4.0 inches.

A good chance of scattered showers and thunderstorms is expected to continue into early next week.
The tropical Atlantic is quiet with no development expected the next 5 days.
