Dry pattern continues at least most of the week

A few lucky spots saw a shower pop up yesterday, especially in Marion County, but most of Dillon, Marion and Marlboro counties stayed dry. The overall dry pattern will continue today through at least Wednesday. Mostly sunny skies will prevail with high temperatures each day 89 to 93. Towards the end of the week and going into the weekend our chance for scattered showers and thundershowers may begin to creep up, but I’m not convinced we should get our hopes up too high just yet.
Part of the reason shower chances may increase is tied into the tropics. A weak tropical disturbance may form off the SE coast north of the Bahamas midweek and then drift toward the US coast. It is not looking like much in the computer models, and most of any rain from the system may stay confined to the coast and areas to our south. The National Hurricane Center puts the chance of getting a tropical depression from this disturbance at 30%.
An area much more impressive for tropical development is the SW Gulf of Mexico. A tropical depression and possible tropical storm could develop there this week and move into Mexico. Rain from that system should soak eastern Texas.
